@cfr, you know you can simply use [[ -f /etc/profile ]] && . /etc/profile instead of the if/then statement. It will work either way, but I use the one liner because it makes my .xinitrc look a little cleaner.
mask it, though I am unsure that would be wise.
Did you disable it in /etc/systemd/logind.conf? See man 5 logind.conf

I know you stated that you installed yesterday, which likely means you are using systemd, but I just want to make sure.... you are using systemd right?
I guess at least you are now using the right kernel module...
I have read numerous times that mounting with udev alone is strongly discouraged.
