Tips Cellular data off/cdma only not working?

http://androidforums.com – I want to completely shut off data connection to cell towers at will and use only wifi. Cellular data off still displays 4G and indicates data transfer via the arrows... and according to my VW account, my data still gets used. So I also tried cdma only and that started using 3G. The only successful course i have found is AP mode which is annoying because i can't do calls/sms as well. (General)

So i have an Epic 4g Touch running 4.0.4 Sprint rooted FF18. I want it to run Jelly Bean or CM10.1

It has been flashed from Sprint to Straight Talk (VZW) CDMA service. I had it flashed via remote the other day and it runs pretty well although the Verizon 3g data is pretty slow at times.

If I have mobile data turned off in settings (i.e. using exclusively wifi when available), does this also mean that my smartphone won't be able to receive MMS? If so, do I get some kind of a prompt (or only the text part of the message) so that I can turn it on temporarily only to receive the MMS waiting to be delivered? In any case...
