I am having the same problem as described here since two weeks. I even did not notice it at first.I know the workaround, deleting it also with shift + del. But why is that now? I cannot even delete files on all Windows file systems as root.
I'm working on an external USB HDD in Thunar. The /media/MOUNT folder now contains a ".Trash-1000" folder. I removed it with Shift-Del, created a dummy file and deleted it, and the folder re-appeared, so it's definitely created by Thunar. I've done some searching, but I can't find a way to empty the trash from within Thunar. Any ideas?
As I understand "deleting a file or folder" basically > moves it into the hidden .Trash folder. Then to empty the trash the command is issued and it is deleted.
When I delete files it says they are being moved to the trash can, but I can't seem to find the can trash can to clear it.
I just installed Lubuntu 11.10 last night, and I thought I remembered seeing the trash can when I opened the file manager.
I found these instructions to create a desktop icon while searching the forum, but there are no trash can icons to choose from.
CODE: SELECT ALL
So I was trying to backup my whole system to my external HD. Upon selecting the directory where the backup would be placed, I noticed there were some files on the HD I don' t need anymore. Thus, I moved them to trash. But, since these files were large (75 / 80 Gb total), my / partition got full. That' s easily solved; just empty the trash.
Today I wondered how to empty the trash bin from CLI (just for fun :D), I googled it and foundrm-rf /home/USER/.local/share/Trash/files/*
rm-rf /home/USER/.local/share/Trash/info/*fine, that works.I have also found something more, a little program called trash-cli. ;)It does more that just emptying the trash, it provides a "mild version of rm command".
The /home directory on my host is an NFS mount connected to a server which is not in my control. When deleting files in $HOME with Nautilus I get the following message:
Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately?
The file "..." cannot be moved to the trash.
Is there some way to enable trash for this mount point?
I was unable to remove a file anymore with thunar:
How should I create the "Trash" folder ?
Deleting files/directories is done by selecting them and pressing F8 or Delete. By default it will be moved to Trash. ............ Shift+Delete will delete the file permanently.
It is not working for me on ubuntu PP. I want to delete to trash with DELETE and permanently with SHIFT+DELETE. How to make it work?
