I have a first generation Starling (star1) that I've just updated to 12.04. (All software is up-to-date; the System 76 drivers have been reinstalled.) The 'restart' command that is offered at shutdown causes the computer to begin its shutdown procedure, but then it just stops: the screen goes black but the power remains on. It does not reboot. Pressing the power button shuts down the computer.
I updated from Ubuntu 11.10, I had installed also XFCE on that version but mainly used Unity, after I upgraded to 12.04 when I shutdown it doesn't shutdown it remains in a XUbuntu splash screeen. I mention that I did't installed, XUbuntu but probably installing XFCE installed also that splash screen.
How can I fix that and make the system shutdown without using hard shutdown?
I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 using Wubi, the installation went correctly and everything was working fine until i tried to shutdown. I clicked shutdown and then ubuntu started shutdown but as soon as i saw the Ubuntu logo with blank dots under, it froze and forced he having a hard shutdown.
Hi,
I have a problem with my computer occasionally restarting on shutdown.
Sometimes when i shutdown it reboots.
With 11.2 and Gnome occasionally it will not shutdown properly. I press the shutdown button and then Gnome starts the shutdown sequence. It terminates the desktop and falls back to GDM, which in it self is normal. However it then just stops, I can't click anything and the system is not responding either. When I press the physical button on my PC I get the menu of shutdown again.
I clean installed Ubuntu 12 several months back on Toshiba Satellite laptop and have had no problems. System was up to date working great. A couple days ago I tried the option of "suspend" instead of shutting down and could not resume. Had to do a hard shutdown and now I can't reboot. All I see after GRUB is black screen with flashing cursor in upper left corner of screen.
Sometimes(rather many times), when I shutdown using the menu option >> Shutdown, the system hangs at a Purple screen with dots. I have waited for 10 mins, but then it becomes clear that i need to do a hard shutdown using power button.
I am using Ubuntu 64 bit AMD edition(12.04.1 LTS) on HP Proliant Microserver(N40L) with OEM hardware.
Hi all,i found that when i enable autologin at slim wheni rebooted an error appear "Xfce power manager HAL daemon is not running".is not big deal i think cause everything else was working fine but when i triedto shutdown or reboot my pc, my pc was not able to do so. i mean when i waspressing shutdown, the pc was "freezed" to the "plz standby" message.
