I'm running a Linux Mint 12 virtual machine in Virtualbox. I would like to move it into a dual-boot setup with my Windows 7 installation. I have lot of settings in there, and apps installed, and my research says that I cannot just copy files.
I guess I could accomplish this by having some kind of list that I could then import for apt-get to install, and then have a back-up of my ~/ files...
Hi allI'm running statler on an Eee PC 900 connected to my TV via VGA as a media center, and I can't stop the PC from putting the TV into standby after ~15 minutes.Previously I've had Mint running and I could set the power management settings to On AC->Monitor->Sleep/off->Never, but this setting doesn't seem to do anything on my install of Crunchbang. Also, is there a w
When I first installed Ubuntu, all networking worked perfectly. After messing with the settings every so often, it slowly became unusable. I would really like to know if there is a way to completely reset network settings without re-installing Ubuntu, DNS settings, proxy settings, everything. I'm running 12.04.
Well ever since I have used dual monitors with the NVIDIA X Server Settings program my xorg process has been crashing after a while, and its generally a pretty long while of like 6 hours afterwards. Before NVIDIA changed my xorg.conf file I only had xorg crash like twice in 2 months, I can't figure out what is going on.
I have a t1.micro instance with public dns looks similar to

Hi,
I am new user of Ubuntu OS. I had installed Ubuntu 12.04. Unfortunately 'System Settings' option got disappeared. If I click on the 'System Settings' at the right corner (above) of the desktop, it does not open. That's why I installed 'system settings' from the ubuntu software center. But it's KDE based. Also the screen shot is completely different from the default 'system settings'.
I've installed the latest ubuntu. I'm using firefox and wanted to change some of the settings. But it has no menu and no where I can see to open the settings menu to change things.
This is my first attempt at installing ubuntu proper and getting this far; i.e. having a system working. I have tried several times since Ubuntu was made.
Is there a way to go to the running applications/services programmaticaly, the path of Menu>Settings>Applications>Running>MYAPP to show the current running services started by my app.
I would like to copy my "settings" from my desktop to my laptop. I am running KDE on Arch. I am not sure what to do with ~/.config, ~/.local, and ~/.kde4 since they have subdirectories with names that match my desktop hostname. If I naively copy everything, I get all sorts of errors/warning when logging in and trying to open my email/calendar/akonadi.
