I am configuring xbindkeys to change window focus using shortcuts.
For example, I managed to create a shortcut to focus on a an application window, let's say a terminator window:
wmctrl -xa terminator
Unfortunately it focuses always at the same terminator window, preventing me to cycle through the terminator windows.
I am on Ubuntu. I write a script that needs OS window focus to be set on 3rd party application (Firefox browser). Currently I switch focus to Firefox using XDoTool and then do mouse clicks/key presses that require window focus.
But user may accidentally change window focus manually.
Hello fine Gentlemen,
i have the following problem and i primarily want to have a way how to analyse this.
My problem is that somehow Ubuntu keeps locking me in a certain window/editor. i can then
not switch to another one using the mouse or Keyboard. I can however close the window,
giving the focus to another window.
Hello All
This is my first question on this forum.
I have recently moved from ARCH Linux to Ubuntu 11.10:).
I switched to using Gnome-Classic and noticed strange behaviors with the windows whenever I open them.
I have setup Launchers on the Panel to launch Dolphin, Terminal and Chrome Browser.
Whenever I launch any of these I notice that they open behind the current window that is in-focus i
Following installation of Ubuntu 12.04 over a previous install of 10.04, I have found odd behaviour in the Fluxbox windows manager. If I 'tab' two windows together (as one can in Fluxbox) I cannot change focus from one tabbed window to another using the mouse. To focus on the other window I have to use the alt-tab method with the keyboard.
FVWM-Crystal refugee here. I've been using #! for over a month and love it. However, I desperately miss one thing from FVWM-Crystal, and that's the window focus policy - where clicking a window does not automatically put it to the front. You need to click on the window title or use the left Alt button to make bring it to the top.
So i coded a popup window with xlib.
Simply a window with override set to true, so window manager wont give my window any borders. (my reasson to do so)
I namely want a custom window design, thats why.
The problem is: im reasonable new to xlib, and I havent got the faintest idea of how to work further.
I recently moved over from Windows, and I apologize if this is a stupid question but I read the manual, tried searching various terms, and could not find anything that helped me.
I don't know how to switch focus in Ubuntu. For example when I click something to download from Firefox, and the pop up comes up asking if I want to save the file, I can't get my mouse to be active on the new window.
The next issue I am trying to straighten out after a recent, long-overdue pacman -Syu, is the loss of window-switching functionality using the alt-tab key combination. This is under the JWM window manager, by the way. The alt key seems to work as expected when, for example, firefox has focus: if I hit alt left arrow, the browser goes back to the preceding page.
