Hello. I've recently decided to try out midnight commander. I've never used it before but I like the idea of command line file management(aside from cp, mv, ls, rm, and whathaveyou). I'm having a rather frustrating problem though. I can't edit the colors. There seems to be pathetically little in the way of documentation on the internet regarding mc.
Hello. I've been theming Awesome window manager thus far with no problems. Up until Midnight Commander. Everywhere online I see that you need to edit the ~/.mc/ini file in order to change your midnight commander theme. I don't have that file. I don't even have a .mc directory in my home folder. So I figured I'd just create one.
Is there any alternative to Magic Folder for ubuntu? Or can we make a folder which will allow us to easily categorize and move files. When we drag a file to the folder it will look at the file extension and place Document files (like doc, xls, ppt, etc) in the Document folder.
File browsing in a Linux terminal is alright, but it could be so much better. Midnight Commander is the program you’re looking for – it gives you a two-paned file browser that makes working in the terminal so much easier. And the best part? It’s simple to get and use.
Midnight Commander, a visual file manager and a feature-rich full-screen text mode application that allows users to copy, move, and delete files and whole directory trees, search for files, and run commands in the subshell, is now at version 4.8.11.
Midnight Commander is an old enough application that a lot of its users might be actually younger than its development.
I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get a 'deb' version of the latest version (4.8.11) of Midnight Commander? I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and, even after adding the repository info listed on their website, my Package Manager only shows the 188.8.131.52-1 version. I can download the source code and do an install but I would prefer using the 'deb' file, if possible.
When it comes to file managers, the choices can be made from a very wide range, from simple, minimalist ones like Thunar up more feature-rich ones like Konqueror and GNOME Commander, or the console ones like Midnight Commander.
GNU Midnight Commander (also known as mc) is a free cross-platform orthodox file manager and a clone of Norton Commander. It was started by Miguel de Icaza in 1994. Midnight Commander is licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License. Midnight Commander is a console application with a text user interface.
