I removed all packages associated with NVIDIA from Synaptic Package Manager and installed nvidia-current. When I click NVIDIA-Settings, gives an error like this:
You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.
Please help me, I need your helps.
Installed BT5-R3 and installed NVIDIA drive and got "no screens" error. I have been trying to work on this myself for the past 2 weeks, and have not been able to resolve it, so I need some help. I have searched, read, and tried everything I could find, with no luck. From what I have gathered I guess it may have to do with intel and NVIDIA together?

im new to backtrack 5 and want to try this.
laptop specs:
Acer 4755G i5 NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M with NVIDIA Optimus Technology 2g with 4g RAM
OS WINDOW 7 64bit
first i download the backtrack 5 (BT5-KDE-64.iso) at the backtrack 5 website and Install Backtrack 5 Live to a 4gig USB
using unetbootin.when i reboot and booted the usb.
my Laptop (Acer ASPIRE 5755G) appears to have two vga cards
1: Integrated Intel 128 mb
2: nVidia GeForce GT540M (cuda 2gb)

I'v bought a new graphic card and installed it on my pc.
Now - ubuntu won't load, all I get is a command line terminal at the end.
I've tried to type startx and got this error:
NVIDIA(0): The NVIDIA GPU at PCI:2:0:0 in not supported by the 173.14.30 NVIDIA driver
NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device.
Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
Now what do I do?

Im very new to the world of Ubuntu/backtrack, which I'm very eager to learn much more!
Ive been hindered by the installation of nvidia drivers.
So far i have installed all of the nvidia drivers and the cpu toolkit, but im stuck at the famous no screen error at "startx" command.

Hi all,I have changed my video card to Nvidia Quadro FX 570M from Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M and I cannot start gdm since then. I have tried to reinstall the nvidia package and even Xorg, didn't help.
