I installed an odbc driver and created a DSN to connect to a sql server database on AIX 6. I want to know how to test the DSN from the command line. What syntax or commands do I use?

I've got MySQL Connector/ODBC 5.1 installed on my Windows Vista laptop. I have MySQL 5.5.19 installed on the laptop, and was able to connect to it via the Windows Data Source Administrator app and the MySQL Connector/ODBC using a TCP/IP connection to 'localhost'.
We are trying to set up BGinfo to record network computers' information in a centralized database. We intend to set up BGinfo to start up for all users and record logon and logoff time plus setting up a scheduler that update the database on an interval. We are trying to use MySQL database as the database but I haven't been able to connect to it successfully. I am using localhost as a testbed.
I tried to Setup an odbc connection from R to my PostgreSQL database located on a server (package RODBC). When trying to connect the connection failed because I entered a wrong Username in the DSN connection defined in odbc.ini.
So I changed odbc.ini and tried again but then RStudio froze. So I killed the process and tried to start the application again.
