Finished installing Ubuntu 10.10 in my XPS15, intel i5 4g ram, nvidia GT 420M graphics card,
problem is when i go to additional drivers, the driver listed (Nvidia accelerated graphics) when I install it and reboot it the computer starts on the terminal, no graphic interface.
In Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal), there is no additional drivers section in system settings, in fact, it has moved to a new tab in software sources.
Hi guys,
I got an acer aspire 5755G with Nvidia GT630M optimus technology and want to make use of it as that is my last job to get my acer to a complete ubuntu laptop.
This tutorial is going to show you how to turn on/off the discrete nVidia graphics card on nVidia Optimus Ubuntu laptop.
For now, nVidia Optimus doesn’t support Linux system.
This shows up in the System Settings tool, Displays. It shows the computer as being a Laptop and does not identify the monitor, nor does it allow you to make any changes. As well, when viewing the DETAILS/GRAPHICS it indicates that the Graphic Driver is Unknown. However, when using the Additional Drivers, it shows the proper driver for the video card (in my case, the Nvidia drivers) is installed.
OK so I just got Ubuntu the other month or so. I'm running the 11.04 version currently and trying to install drivers for a Nvidia graphics card (it's my brother's computer and he currently cannot find the number of the card right now). I read that, to install the proper drivers for gaming, I would need to go into "Additional Drivers" and choose them myself.
I don't have my nvidia 8400gm graphics card included in additional drivers in ubuntu 12.10 64bit. Previously it was working fine on ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit. here is the screenshot
Hi,
I've been trying to get my graphic card working under ubuntu and opensuse but to no avail.
First, i tried through additional drivers, but after installation it keeps saying "this driver is activated but not currently in use". That is 3D-accelerated proprietary graphics driver for NVIDIA cards.
On April 10, Canonical published in a security notice details about an NVIDIA graphics drivers vulnerability for its Ubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating systems.
According to Canonical, NVIDIA graphics drivers could be made to run programs as an administrator.
It was discovered that the NVIDIA graphics drivers incorrectly handled large ARGB cursors.
