Ubuntu Security Notice USN-2094-1
January 31, 2014
A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:
- Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
The system could be made to crash or run programs as an administrator
Since BULLRUN became public last month, the security community has been examining security flaws discovered over the past several years, looking for signs of deliberate tampering. The Debian random number flaw was probably not deliberate, but the 2003 Linux security vulnerability probably was. The DUAL_EC_DRBG random number generator may or may not have been a backdoor.
America's Independence Day may have come and gone, but that doesn't mean there's been nothing else to celebrate as the summer wears on. No indeed! Last Wednesday was none other than Pi Approximation Day, an event of perhaps even greater import for geeks far and wide.
