Hey guys, I'm having an issue with synaptics on my laptop. The newest version is compiled for Xorg 1.14.1 but I can only run Xorg 1.12.4. Upgrading X does not seem to be an option as I am required to use proprietary NVIDIA video drivers(specifically nvidia-96xx in the AUR) that are somewhat out of date.
I'm trying to get synaptics working on my slackware 14.1, where I have compiled 3.14.5 kernel from source, and getting the above error. I've looked at previous threads before with the same issue, with most people recommending to look at the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf. However, when I look inside my xorg.conf.d/ folder, it is completely empty.

I have windows 8.1 pro, and I had Synaptics v16[something], so I noticed on the Synaptics website that they had a new v17. So I went to uninstall my current driver, I did this successfully, I restarted my system, then I downloaded the new v17 and tried to install it, it said it failed.
