Can anyone explain what exactly the Android Backup API is used for?
I have read Using the Backup API and Data Backup from the Developer Docs, but it is still unclear to me.
When is data backed up & restored?
Specifically in these situations:
A user installs my app on Device 1, data is backed up, and the user then installs my app on Device 2.
If you currently own a rooted Android device, or flashed a custom ROM, chances are you’ve taken at least one nandroid based or titanium based backup of your system settings and application data. As you know, in order to take either of these backups, root access is required.
What about if you want to unlock your bootloader after you’ve been using your device for several months?
I'm developing a custom Contacts app that will store data on the device in a SQLite database.
I just found out for this app. It have backup option for data, apps, sms etc... Maybe it will be usefull for the one who have rooted phone, and wants to backup.

On My server i have set local backup daily, weekly and monthly. last night some one deleted a account from server. now since the daily backup was takes yesterday night it does not had the data there. weekly backup is too old. what can be done to avoid this state i had similar issue before also.
i want to retain last 7 days data on server.
I'm reinstalling a Windows 7 PC and want backup all the users generated data to latter decide what data can be useful. What directories I must backup? I will format the PC and all importante data must be saved. I have doubts particularly about C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData and how save it using a Ubuntu live CD in case I don't have access to the Windows 7 PC. AppData have a lot of syslink inside!
Hi all, little frustrated here and looking for some guidance.
Currently have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, unlocked and rooted, running Bugless Beast 09-17. I want to go back to stock and get the OTA JB update and go from there. Problem I am having is I cannot get the data off my phone, my sdcard data, which in my understanding will be wiped when I go back to stock.
Picked up a new Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. What good reliable app is there to do a full and complete device back up of all data, applications and configurations with ease an also restore to a saved state.
