in crunchbang 9.04 was pcmanfm as filemanager, which could be set up to manage the desktop to have icons for files and folders (shows content of /home).. don't know if thunar can do that somehow.. or just install lxde components to have a desktop environment for openbox.
I've only been using Xubuntu for about a month now, and I've noticed from discrepancies between Thunar and PCManFM, Thunar records my current free space as 10.8GB, while PCManFM as 11.6GB. The reason why I have two file managers is that I had to install PCManFM to change some file and folder permissions, PCManFM is easier to use than Nautilus.
Hello All, I wrote and saved below script with name "testsh" and made it executable with "sudo chmod +x testsh"#!/bin/sh
echo Hello World
read someTextI then opened a terminal:fabio@fabio-laptop ~ $ ./testsh
Hello Worldand until you hit a key it won't exit. This is all very silly and simple. I then open Thunar and double-click on the testsh icon, but nothing happens.
PCmanFM is not accessible.
My lubuntu desktop has become unusable: the normal desktop, handled (i think) by pcmanfm was replaced by an empty one, while pcmanfm became unstable: first used 100% of cpu, then would not be accessible at all, despite the fact that it is runing.
I have installed LXDE beside lubuntu-desktop and for a while in lxde all looked normal, but after several logins/logouts the
PCMan File Manager (PCManFM) is a file manager application developed by Hong Jen Yee from Taiwan which is meant to be a replacement for Nautilus, Konqueror and Thunar. Released under the GNU General Public License, PCManFM is free software. PCManFM is the standard file manager in LXDE, which is also developed by the same author in conjunction with other developers.
I had the same problem when I went to LXDE. If I recall correctly, I removed the command to launch pcmanfm from the file /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart. I removed it completely here as I don't use pcmanfm at all, but instead use Thunar as my file manager.

Hi Everyone,I don't remember where the idea came from, but I thought I would try to use mc instead of PCmanfm. But then I thought that might just be a waste of time learning how to use it since I don't actually need something lighter or faster than pcmanfm. So...can a "simple user" like me benefit from using mc rather than thunar or pcmanfm?
SolarBoyMatt wrote:And you might want to make sure udisks/udisks2 and dbus are installed for automounting with pcmanfm.Actually, after some playing around, I like the file manager "ranger" better than "pcmanfm".In "pcmanfm" I have to click on the usb stick to mount it. What's the command for this?
Hey guys, I have been using DreamLinux for a while and I love it but since it is XFCE it has Thunar instead of PCManFM. and I love PCMFM. So how do I replace it? DL is based on Debian if that matters.Thanks,Crunchy.
