I've been trying to do this for ages, but I've never been able to find any concrete details as to how to do this.  I'd like to set the start up font so that it looks like the one used in like Debian, Ubuntu, and other distros, instead of the bitmap font that I currently have set as the terminal font.

My /var partition died.  So I went ahead and got a new laptop.  Problem solved... sort of.

I can't get pidgin to connect to Gtalk.  I've googled it for information and saw this post and this one, but to no avail.  Is anyone having similar problems?

I decided to try a tiling window manager. Since I like emacs and lisp, I chose stumpWM.
