Hi,
Initially hibernate/resume was working fine. But now system hibernate but doesn't resume, instead it boot-up normally.
Whenever I go into hibernate or suspend it doesn't seem to work.
I'm trying to setup hibernate on my new rig, and I've gotten tuxonice working a few times, but then I had a failed hibernate, and sense then, I can't resume from a hibernate. TuxOnIce has the loading bar, and the text interface, and successfully brings the computer into hibernate. However when resuming from hibernate, the screen stays black, then displays random pixels everywhere, and hangs.
My system is able to resume from suspend only after I've let it hibernate:scratch:.
When I do a fresh boot and suspend the system just after the desktop started, resuming will result in a black screen and I had to power off the computer (see pm-suspend-kde-fail.log).
Since switching to Karmic, suspend and hibernate are not working consistently on my Toshiba Satellite. I have it set to hibernate when I close the lid, but doing so only turns off the screen. The suspend and hibernate keys on my keyboard also no longer work. When I select these options from the menu, the computer will suspend or hibernate properly.
I hardly ever put my laptop on suspend/hibernate, so I don't know how long I've had this issue for. I'm on Ubuntu 11.10. When I turn my laptop back on again from suspend- a blank screen shows up and none of the keyboard buttons/touch-pad respond; only way to recover is holding down the power button to restart.
I've recently updated this book from F10 to F12. New install.
It seems to work okay, but it's not successfully hibernating, AFAICT.
(That did work with F10 with no problems.)
So I've never used either hibernate or suspend and have been reading up on it as I am upgrading all my stuff and wanna try either/both but have some questions first
I understand that hibernate is mostly for desktop pc's and writes the save to disk and shutsdown
and suspend is more for lappy's and holds the save in ram
is that right?
1) how do you get out of hibernate/suspend?
just use the power
Well, resume on USB works really well with all forms of suspend/hibernate and also (my favorite) suspend-hybrid.
However, I have 2 issues. I've searched around, but I can't seem to find anything posted that works for me.
1) I don't seem to be able to wake my frontend using my MCE usb ir remote. It worked the first time I tried (but maybe I just bumped the mouse?).
