It is a very simple question...
How to switch off the storage (ex for maintance)?
I really don't know if there is a standard procedure to switch off a SAS storage. I did not find any switch to push and in Storage management software there is not any option to shutdown.
I have question regarding a storage server, I have VM need to be connected to SAN storage, in order to connect to SAN storage I'm in a scenario which I need to have LVM (Logical Volume Server) between the SAN storage and the VM.
So my question, is the LVM storage server specification will be important ?
I am looking for some ideas on what would be the best way to discover and manage network storage.
Discovery: Any good tools that will scan hosts and storage devices and report back their findings? Maybe using SNMP or WMI?
Management: I'm currently looking at Storage Manager by Solar Winds, but it is a bit pricey. Any good open source projects like this?
I'm a noob and is working on a video sharing type of site. Would using network attached storage's devices be a good or bad idea, then later upgrade to a SAN. So a user uploads, it goes on the network disk(s), then a encoder copies to to local, encodes and then copy them back to the NAS for the streaming Machines to serve up.
Would it be a good or bad idea?
I'm proposing this to be a canonical question about enterprise-level Storage Area Networks.
What is a Storage Area Network (SAN), and how does it work?
How is it different from a Network Attached Storage (NAS)?
What are the use cases compared to direct-attached storage (DAS)?
In which way is it better or worse?
Why is it so expensive?
Should I (or my company) use one?
Hello folks,
I have an AIX server that is connected to a storage array via a Brocade switch using 4 ports from either side. The zoning is done such that there are 4 paths visible from the server to the storage.
My work involves frequent disabling or enabling the switch ports that are connected to the server.
Networking solutions specialist Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) has partnered with storage firm EMC (NYSE: EMC) to automate the management of joint EMC and Brocade storage area networking (SAN) environments, the latest in a bevy of announcements EMC has made this week.

If there ever was a “sure thing” in technology, storage is it. Everyone needs it, and the more data a company creates, the more storage it needs. And while the cloud is good for storage of large data sets, sometimes a company needs storage that is portable and instantly accessible.

I am looking for a raid storage device that can hold minimum 8 hdd's with ZFS RaidZ to store the data redundant without the need of drives of the same size etc. The software is not a problem, I just don't find the perfect hardware to realize this.
