http://askubuntu.com – I have a Korg Nanokey, and I'd like to make it produce sound in ubuntu. I've read that means I should be using Rosegarden, and that Rosegarden uses JACK, but does not install it. (Although checking out Ubuntu Software Center, apparently some components of JACK are installed by default?) I understand there can be a lot of work setting up JACK without it fighting the default sound server. Can someone give me a step-by-step method for what I need to do to plug in my midi machine and hear music when I press keys as simply as possible (without messing up pulseaudio, ie, so I can still access Sk (HowTos)

I have Ubuntu 12.04 and want to setup a M-Audio Axiom 49.

I have tried to read up on jackd1 / jackdmp /jackd2 / qjackctl and whatnot, but havent gotten any sound from the keyboard yet.

A long time ago i managed to get sound from it using rosegarden and qjackctl, but not anymore.

I have timidity installed and can play midi audio with it.

In rosegarden there are no available midi input devices w

In the past (before Crunchbang used Pulseaudio) I had managed to plug my Midi keyboard into USB, and use qsynth and rosegarden to just play piano (not even record).  More recently I can't for the life of me get the soundfonts loaded into qsynth to appear in rosegarden.  I'm sure it's settings related but I'm a little out of my league.  If anyone has accomplished

I need some help understanding how JACK, ALSA, and MIDI interact. Specifically, I want to understand why I'm having so much trouble routing MIDI traffic between different devices and programs.

I just bought an M-Audio Keystation 49e off of craigslist and I'm at a bit of a loss on where to start to use it as an input device for muse or rosegarden.

I have an intel duo core mb with intel on board sound and an ati 4350 video card - which fc12 considers another audio card. Check System -> Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Prefereences output tab to be sure the correct output device is selected. It changed randomly with the last yum kernel update.

Hi, I am running Ubuntu 11.10 on a dell insperon 1545 with 4 gb of ram and a core 2 duo. every thing seems to be just peachy aside from my computer not recognizing my midi controller. I have a m-audio oxygen 8 v1. Also how do I get ubuntu to play through my external sound card when not using jack? I have an emu 0404 usb 2.0.

This Is a follow on from my attempt to broadcast to an icecast server.

I am now having problems with the way my sound system is recognizing input,output when I start up up JACK and IDJC.

Part of the problem is that it (my sound system) thinks my USB Mic is an output!?!

Ardour, pulseaudio, and JACK 36 weeks 3 days ago

I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I have searched around the internet and haven't been able to find anything addressing my issue. I installed Ardour, but it failed to start JACK. After further inspection, I realized that it would only run if I kill pulseaudio. This causes problems because my system sound works through pulseaudio (I think) and I was not able to hear anything.
