i'm using backtrack5 r3 on VMware workstation 9... when i type 'startx' to load the gui the screen goes blank and my laptop restarts... how do i fix this error...???
graphics: amd radeon hd 7650m
I have been trying to get Backtrack5 to run smoothly on my new laptop and have run into a few issues.
I have installed a version of Backtrack5 onto another laptop previously as the primary OS, and everything seemed to work perfectly. Now I am trying to install it using VMware Workstation, and can't seem to get the internet working properly.
I'm using the proprietary NVidia drivers for my Macbook's 9400M graphics card, and while X can start, it seems to have trouble quitting. I can startx normally, but if I kill X or quit my window manager, the screen will go entirely blank.
After graphics card failure I decided to use the on board vga input, problem is I can't get startx to launch twm....which is all I've been using. I uninstalled the nvidia drivers and deleted the xorg config file and tried to use startx, Seems to be still wanting to use the nvidia driver even after creating a new Xorg.conf file.
I have an Asus K53 laptop with a AMD A6 APU and I cant seem to get the screen to work for GUI mode. I can Install it with the alternate CD but I can only see a blinking cursor then no screen detected error pops up for about a second. its got a Radeon HD 6720G2. I have also tried running "startx" in terminal mode but the same error was outputted.
