Now that I've customised almost everything, I hope to turn my attention to that dreary guitar chord at boot up. Is there a way of replacing it with something a little snazzier?

*** THIS PROJECT IS STILL VERY MUCH IN ALPHA ***johnraff made me do it.so, this is the 'very alpha' version of Gchords!, the guitar-counterpart of Chords! (which is for piano).this one turns out to be a lot harder than the piano, because you have to consider hand-placement and the fact that you have only 4 fingers and all that stuff on a guitar.

1.To turn off login sound,go to System->Preferences->Startup Applications.In Startup Programs tab scroll down to find out “GNOME Login Sound” and uncheck it.

Hi, I have one of those vox headphone amps that plugs directly into your guitar, the problem is the way it's built is very unpractical since it is a big piece of plastic jutting out the side of your guitar and won't even plug into some guitars.
