I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop and I would like to make a set up such that without a login password, no one would be able to login into my system. Currently it seems that one can, quite easily, login into Ubuntu operating system using the recovery mode, or using an Ubuntu Live USB.
After installing the last update (which ran an unusually long time) on 3/17/13 my desktop system fails after startup. Everything is OK for about 10-20 seconds, then the screen blinks and the launcher and tool bar disappear. If left alone the screen will blink black 2-3 times for a minute or two before everything is frozen. If started in Recovery Mode it runs OK.
I made a clean installed of Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit without a problem. It came with kernel version 3.0.0.12. I rebooted twice with no problem. After this I applied all the recommended updates from "Update Manager" including the kernel version 3.0.0.15. After this the system doesn't start anymore in normal boot mode.
Hello,
When I startup my laptop (Packard Bell EasyNote MX52 with Ubuntu 12.04) I get the message 'The system is running in low-graphics mode'. My cursor doesn't work and I also can't get in the terminal because when I press Crtl + Alt + F1 I get a black screen.
How can I solve this problem?
Hi all ...
I am facing a strange thing with my ubuntu system ..
my system : Dell Inspiron 1564 Laptop , Dual boot .. Win7 + ubuntu
at first i installed ubuntu 10.04 and that was my first ubuntu try .. it was very stable the best operating system ... and everything was ok !!!!!
after that i ran the update manager as usual ..
Was running Ubuntu 10.10 for a while on this laptop and it worked fine. Recently upgraded to 12.04 and, while things work fine most of the time, the system hangs occasionally.
When the system hangs it simply 'stops working'. The screen stays as it was, unchanged.
I had windows 7 installed on my system ( not the genuine copy ), somehow it caught up into the windows update and then it started causing problem. I had ubuntu installed inside Windows at that time. (using wubi)
I "System Restored" my windows a couple of times and it seemed to be working fine for some time.
I have just installed Fedora 12 on my old AMD64 desktop. The install went fine, I then set about adding various useful things like skype, flash plugin- some manually, some with autoten.
Upon rebooting, the system hangs. Looking at the text startup, the last line before it hangs is:
Starting jexec servicesStarting yum-updatesd: [OK]
For starters, I am a noob when it comes to Ubuntu and Linux but I am hopeful that I have the light and the error of my past MS ways.
After a recent update last week from 12.04 to 12.04.1, my system now locks up at the login screen. Before the update the system would run but must admit it ran EXTREMELY slow.
