One can autostart an application such that it launches on session start with an xdg desktop file in ~/.config/autostart (or /etc/xdg/autostart).
But my application (a python/gtk/webkit/html5 app) when autostarted has a unity (and a unity-2d) launcher icon that is a gray question mark, even though:
when I find it in dash, the dash shows the icon I specify in my main desktop file (in /usr/share/a
I've just updated ubuntu to 11.10 a couple of days ago. When i was experimenting with the launcher, i removed a terminal icon, which was running and un-clicked "keep in launcher".
I downloaded and installed the 32-bit nixnote package from sourceforge. It was 1.4 version .deb package download, and when I clicked on it, software center opened, and I installed through software center. But when I tried to find it to uninstall, it is nowhere to be found in Software Center. I do I uninstall it then?
Intentionally or accidentally I have removed Firefox from Unity launcher. When I opened Firefox to get the icon on launcher so that I can right-click it and choose "Keep on launcher" When I did so, the icon stays for the session, but when I logged out and return again, I don't see the icon on launcher. How can I keep Firefox icon on launcher?!
Is there a way to customize a Lucid Lynx Launcher icon for various programs? There does not seem to be a way to do this using Create Launcher or Launcher properties. The application is not actually "installed" on the PC, the executable has just been copied.
This is a question that involves multiple issues involved in creating a menu tied to a Launcher icon. I'm using a fresh install of 12.04 (AMD64 version).
I've written a small yad (Yet Another Dialog editor) script which displays a dialog containing several choices for launching a set of related programs.
Hi
I've got a Java application, it's a JNLP file, that I start by clicking an icon on my 12.04 desktop. Is there any way I can move the icon to the Unity launcher? When I try to drag it onto the launcher, it just pops back onto the desktop.

Until today's update, I could start Terminal with either Ctrl-Alt-T or else the BFB at top left, then a terminal icon would appear on the launcher, and I could lock it to the launcher.
I use terminal a lot.
I'm new to Ubuntu. If I click Dash then the second tab (Search Applications), one of the items is "Installed Applications". Is there anyway to put a quick link to this in the launcher? Basically a icon like home that will instead open a list of all installed applications?
