Ok so I tried for the first time to use PGP keys for email encryption in Evolution. I followed some instructions online, created a key, but coz I encountered some problems I decided to delete the key and restart the proces. (This fact is probably irrelevant, because I got similar errors when doing it.)
Now I have no key and I go to Remote: Sync and publish keys.
It seems that servers are only as secure as the machine that holds the keys and that in turn means the desktop/screensaver password is the line of defence for not only the desktop itself but any remote servers normally accessed.
Hi Everyone,
This is a minor issue, but one of those things that's been bugging me. Everything on my laptop works right after the install, including the camera and fingerprint reader (with fprint-demo) with the exception of the Thinkvantage and media player special keys. On my computer, these keys and dedicated mute and volume buttons are separate and above the actual keyboard.
Hi, new user here. I installed SMath through the AUR. I have already used SMath in windows to solve some homework problems, where it works very well, I am impressed. However in Arch, SMath does not respond at all to some keys. My keyboard is fine, and only in SMath it appears as if there are dead keys.
Heeelllooooooooo everybody.
I have SSH working with putty and FileZilla with just password authentication, but I CANNOT for the life of me get SSH keys to work. This is the deal, I have a 12.10 Ubuntu home server with an encrypted home folder.
For years I've known about and used SSH with keys to automate login. I've always simply used the ssh-keygen and copied the public key into the authorised keys wherever I needed to log in into.
A couple of months ago I started with AWS and they have a thing called key pairs, which I am sure is closely related to the keys that I know.... but it isn't exactly the same thing.
My laptop's media keys (volume up/down/mute) are detected via xev and showkey. I can go into System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts and set the volume controls with the media keys. However when I try to use the keys they do not function properly.
I tried setting the keys and rebooting the system but that hasn't worked. Any ideas?

My Toshiba C800 laptop (12.04lts desktop) has special function keys as follows:
fn+
F2-BRIGHTNESS DOWN
F3-BRIGHTNESS UP
F4-DISPLAY SELECT
F5-TOUCH PAD on/off
F6-PREVIOUS
F7-PLAY/PAUSE
F8-NEXT
F9-VOLUME DOWN
F10-VOLUME
F11-MUTE
F12-WiFi on/off
F6 to F11 (media player keys) work correctly, but the keys from F2 to F5 and F12 are not working.
Why would some function keys work, but not others?
