I have this sound issue ever since Ubuntu 10.x. I am on 11.10 now and I was hoping this would have been fixed.
I would like to use 5.1 speaker sound, so I go to the speaker icon in the top right of the screen and select sound properties, navigate to hardware tab and select 5.1 analog mode. This works wile sound is playing e.g. from Banshee music player.
I don't get any sound when I play a video DVD with vlc media player.
This is on a FC 17 64 bit machine, Xfce spin.
I have sound when I play Youtube videos in Firefox.
I have sound when I play sound files from xmms.
(Don't know what Mplayer would do. I find it's interface too mysterious.)
Anyone know what problem would be peculiar to vlc ?
I'm trying to play audio using a HTML5 Audio tag on my phone.
Hi there everytime I play a flash video, and then play music natively the sound doesn't work.
Or I can play flash and have sound but not play music with sound that's on my PC.
Or I play my music on my PC, say one song, and the other is high pitched distorted, and rings. I have to exit the program and start it again for it to play nice.
How do I resolve this most irritating bug?
I have a media centre with a ATI Radeon HD graphics card using Ubuntu desktop with all updates current which works fine for video and will also work perfectly for sound.
The problem is that it seems after the first time using the media centre to play something the next time I come back to use it the HDMI output device is missing within the sound devices list (it's always there and not being used
I am using Fedora 17 KDE.
When I play music in Amarok using the Gstreamer backend, playback will simply stop ever 30 to 90 minutes and not resume until I click Next Track. Pressing Pause or Stop and then Play doesn't do anything.
When I use the VLC backend, sound will be terribly distorted and scratchy for 20 to 60 seconds after the computer was started and then continue to play normally.
After starting Totem in Ubuntu 12.10 (playing an .MTS file), it starts out playing just fine, but after about 3 seconds the sound goes away. No clue at all what is happening. .MPG files play just fine.
The videos play just fine, with sound, in VLC.
EDIT: Pausing the video and then starting again brings sound back for about one second, and then the sound fades again.
Just wondering if this was a common occurance? When my phone is on a lower volume at work, I've noticed when I get messages the notification sound doesn't always play. The phone still vibrates and I've made sure its loud enough to hear, it just doesn't play until I restart the phone.
Anyone else getting this?
Currently everything is stock apart from using Nova launcher.
