Sound Not playing through HDMI

http://askubuntu.com – I am running Ubuntu 12.10 using the "wubi" tool on my HP Pavilion dv5-1080ei with Windows 8. When I ran Ubuntu for the first time my monitor/tv connected via the hdmi had no pic coming to it even though it was showing up in the display settings. I managed to fix this problem by changing the NVIDIA driver from the default "Nouveau" to one of the proprietary ones.This made the picture work on my monitor/tv but not the sound :( I tried all the different proprietary drivers on the list, all the same. When I go to "test sound" the audio ONLY plays through my laptop speakers even if I have the HDMI (HowTos)

i been trying to set up my vizio hd tv as a monitor for my pc trough hdmi, i get video not as good as it is on windows 7 but ok i can deal with that is not that bad. my problem is that i get no audio, the sound stays in my laptop.

this is a list of things i done to try to fix this issue:

I am having some problems getting sound to work over the HDMI interface on my laptop. I have tried going to System/Preferences/Sound to try and change the settings to HDMI but there are no HDMI options to choose from. How do I find out if HDMI sound is supported by the nvidia drivers I am using? I had a look at this thread;

I just built new PC:

AMD 8350 CPU ASUS sabertooth motherboard Nvidia GTX 650 graphics card Ubuntu 12.10

System boots fine and desktop is fine using VGA connection, but there is no HDMI video output to the monitor (HP w2207h) using the Nouveau drivers.

Tried a second other type of monitor with HDMI and had the same thing "NO SIGNAL".

So I used "System Settings" and changed from Nouveau driver

I'm having problems trying to get my HDMI audio output to work correctly. By default, with or without and external monitor connected, the audio is heard from my notebook speakers (or from the headphones, when I plug them in).

I'd like to use my Geforce 9800GT's HDMI audio as a separate sound device. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10.

I just spent hours to configure the sound to work with HDMI. My last problem is, when I start playing sound the TV screen goes on and off, like when you change the resolution. When I stop playing sound, 3-5 seconds after, the same thing happen. I feel like everytime I play/stop the sound, the HDMI connection needs to be resetted.

I have a laptop and a second screen connected through a HDMI port, everything works, but this annoying sound... If I disconnect a second monitor the sound is gone, but I need this monitor. Choosing different audio devices in Sound Settings does not help, even if I turn off all audio devices - still that terrible and annoying sound. I just want to get rid of that sound. Thanks.

I'm on a Hp laptop and I've been running Ubuntu for several months without a single sound issue. After a regular update notice popped up, I updated the 20 or so things.

Now whenever the PC locks the screen from being idle too long I loose sound from my headphone jack (into my external speakers) and onboard speakers when I unplug the externals.

With my Nvidia graphic card under Windows monitor Mirroring and audio via HDMI (out to receiver>HD TV) work just fine.

Under Ubuntu 12.04 if Nouveau driver is used Mirroring works fine, but audio is absent (even though HDMI audio devices are listed - none of them producing sound via HDMI.
