Sound clipping question

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – Hi all! There are some mp3 sound files (e.g. Vangelis: Spanish Harbour) that are clipped on linux, but do not sound clipped on windows (a Shuttle SD11G5). I understand that conversion to mp3 may not have been good - I have the same file in flac version it plays OK (it also has lower volume) on linux. But how does one explain this difference for windows to be able to play the same mp3 file w/o clipping and is there a possibility to set up something similar via software for Linux? Maybe it is just hardware difference, but I think probably not, because I had similar problem when I was running debian on the Shuttle box. Anyways if we supposed it might be hardware - how would I determine this? Id' highly appreciate pointers in the right direction. I am running: Fedora 12 64 bit. AMD Phenom 9550. Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) Audio card is internal to Asus M3A32-MVP DELUXE motherboard Thank you for suggestions (HowTos)
