Sony has finally discontinued production of its line of iconic cassette Walkmans, after 33 golden years of music.
Individuals of a certain age may remember a time when a Sony Walkman was the technological, gee-whiz gadget of its time that set the standard for other portable music players. While much has changed over the years, the spirit of the Sony Walkman lives on today in the Sony Walkman Player app.
Sony Ericsson announced a music-oriented Android 2.3 smartphone with a dedicated Walkman music button and & deep& Facebook integration. Due to ship in the fourth quarter, the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman offers a 1GHz processor, a 3.2-inch inch display with 480 x 320 pixels, a five-megapixel camera, a front-facing VGA webcam, plus Sony Qriocity music and video content services....
The world’s first popular ultra-portable tape-based music player, the Sony Walkman, has gone through a myriad versions over its 30+ year lifespan, including MiniDisc and flash based versions, but Sony’s now sending the tape-based Walkman to walk off into the sunset and retire.
