In some surprising news, it looks like we’ll be seeing more and more devices powered by MediaTek processors in the near-future. Hot off the heels of ZTE potentially developing a smartphone featuring a MediaTek 8-core processor, Sony has requested samples of MediaTek’s MT6589 quad-core SoC.
Sony has announced that the Xperia Go will arrive in Canada by November. The Go features a 3.5-inch display, a 1 GHz dual-core processor, a 5MP camera, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (don’t hold your breath for an upgrade to Jelly Bean).
The Go is a decent low to mid range device that offers great protection and falls in that category of ”rugged” devices.
Sony Mobile is working on yet another smartphone with 720p HD display and dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile processor. Codenamed as Xperia Mint, the smartphone will feature a 13 megapixel camera and may be branded as Xperia T.
We already showed you the hands on with the Sony Xperia Z, but we can’t forget about the Xperia ZL. Both were unveiled at the Sony press event at CES. The Xperia ZL has a smaller footprint, but isn’t dust and water resistance. You will also find a rubberized back as opposed to the glass back found on the Xperia Z.
The Sony Xperia ZL has been available for pre-order on Sony’s US web store for several weeks now, and finally received a price. At $720 for the HSPA+ version and $760 for the LTE version, it’s definitely at the higher end for an unlocked smartphone. As shown in our hands on, the Xperia ZL is no slouch.
We’ve already seen Sony’s Xperia SL in the wild, but today the Japanese manufacturer has finally made the elusive smartphone official. An exact release date isn’t announced, though the device is now listed on the company’s official website as “coming soon”.
Sony put on an amazing press conference tonight and as expected, they unveiled the Xperia “Zed” or Xperia Z and Xperia ZL. The guts of both phones are essentially the same, but the Xperia Z is dust and water resistant. It also has a glass back and a little bit bigger footprint, but it’s a little thinner at 7.9mm.
