Sony is gearing up for a big announcement on February 20, according to invitations it sent out to the media on Thursday. The smart money was already on a next-generation PlayStation console being the topic of discussion, but the Wall Street Journal came out and blatantly declared that’s what we’d be getting.

  Sony’s Xperia Z smartphone is starting to see its first major firmware update hitting devices out in Europe. The update seems to bring the firmware to version 10.1.A.1.434 and is only available for a minority of the devices so far.

Sony Xperia P owners can be happy to know that starting today the device will get an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.

 Sony has announced that a new firmware upgrade for the PlayStation 3, to be released on April 1st, will remove the "Install Other OS" option from all versions of the console. The announcement in the company blog cites "security concerns" as the reason for the removal.

Sony Computer Entertainment America has just been hit with a class action lawsuit in California over the company's recent decision to remove PlayStation 3 support for the Linux operating system in a firmware update. 

In what will surely be a blow to Linux fans the world over, Sony is dropping support for the open operating system on its PlayStation 3, citing security concerns. The move will take effect Thursday with the release of a firmware update to version 3.21.
