Hi everyone
Got a Compaq CQ61-117TU and it just doesn't like Linux.
With 9.04, I had two problems:
1. No sound
2. Computer wouldn't wake from sleep properly (had to kill it every time)
With 9.10, oddly enough, things just got worse:
No video AT ALL - total black screen.

Hey guys,
I did a clean install of 12.10, when I open Sound Settings in gnome the only device in the list is "Dummy Output", and sound is not working.
Sound worked fine out of the box in 12.04
I ran alsamixer, it says my card is "HDA Intel", and chip is "Realtek ALC880".
I recently got an HP dv6-7014nr. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit.
Problem is I can not get sound to work.
After a clean install of 10.04 I copied the installation from my older laptop over. everything went fine except for sound.
I removed pulseaudio and tried a few things.
Sorry for bothering everyone, but I have a Compaq CQ61 where the sound does not work. I can go to PulseAudio volume control and it shows a bar that it's recieving sound feedback from YouTube, but I can't hear anything. System sounds don't work, music doesn't work, and nothing comes out of the speakers or headphones.
I've just updated to Ubuntu 12.04 last night and I've been having problems with the sound. Already checked if it was muted and though i tried the troubleshooting steps at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting and got stuck at number 4, where I tried the sudo aplay -1 command but it said aplay: invalid option -- '1'
I got to this so far and I'm stumped here.
Hi!
Sound was working perfect. i run OpenSUSE 11.2 w/KDE 4.3.4
Its a laptop Dell Latitude D830.
