I want ubuntu to automatically boot, i dont want to see the grub menu to choose between the Linux or Memtest options, prefer to do this thru terminal, no programs please. Thank You
I recently inherited an iMac from a friend and decided to put Ubuntu and mint on it...I first installed Ubuntu 12.04(replacing mac os x) and of course it installed grub2 with it, after doing an 'update-grub' I got the default grub2 menu when I booted, from this I had the options to boot to Memtest, ubuntu recovery, ubuntu, and the older kernals of ubuntu.
These instructions explain how, with GRUB v1, to make it possible to choose which OS will boot next, either from Windows or Linux, by redirecting GRUB to look for a menu.lst file on a separate FAT32 partition. Either Ubuntu or Windows can then modify that menu.lst file to determine the next OS that will boot.
OK, so after trying to update to R2, after a reboot I got the black/blank screen, fix that then I tried to update the grub menu, I can't remember what I exactly did, because for some reason when booting to the grub menu, the first 2 options were gone, and only left me with the memtest+ and the other option..
I did a work around to get bt to boot up by editing the memtest option by hitting the '
I have a dual boot ubuntu 12.04/windows 8 laptop that runs grub2. More often than not after the laptop finishes POST and when grub attempts to load and display the boot menu the laptop will hang. Sometimes this happens with only partial text of the menu displayed, sometimes the entire menu is displayed but accepts no input.
How do i boot to Ubuntu automatically without having to choose it in the options which includes ubuntu recovery mode and other ones. In the boot edit menu, you have to put some coding in which i dont know. Please help. Thanks.
