Hello there, after I spent the last 6 hours fixing a system running Xfce and not finding anything related to my issue on googe, I decided to share my findings to spare others the trouble.Alacarte (the menu editor) does not work with Xfce4. It produces menu-files which cause Xfce to crash.
I cannot right click with my mouse on the gnome applications menu to get the properties/edit menu option. This is on F12 on 64bit.
Instead I get: "help, remove from panel, lock panel". I dont have this problem with anything else on the top bar.

I am using alacarte to edit the list of folder in the applications menu on the desktop. (in the items menu) There are menu entries in italics which are those that are hidden. When I press the check box, a check does appear, but the text remains in italics.
My panel for all the shortcuts was at the bottom right and then the one that showed whichever apps you had open was on the left. Somehow I accidentally deleted the one on the left. To remedy this, I right clicked the panel below and looked through the available widgets and chose something that sounded like the same thing.
I'm trying Fedora for the first time (well i had a peep a while back). I like this version of the desktop but one thing i can't find is a menu editor. In xubuntu it was called Main Menu in Settings... i think it was the app Alacarte.
I've removed Mutt and will replace it with Alpine. But Mutt has left it's icon in the menu.
We need a sensible program that will allow us to install software and icons for programs other than what we find in the repositories. Alacarte doesn't seem to work anymore. I've been trying install Autopanopro and nowhere is the Icon to be found along with the executeable file for initializing the program.
