Cinnamon is a LinuxMint project, a fork of Gnome Shell. Cinnamon comes with a Gnome2-like panel at bottom, with classic menu, favourite apps, and system tray icons on it. Cinnamon also has Gnome Shell Activity icon on top-left with “Windows & Themes”.
Cinnamon just released 1.1.3 version few hours ago with improvements of menu, panel launcher, etc.
I am using cinnamon 2.2.16-1, awesome 3.5.5-1 and awesome-cinnamon from the Arch Linux AUR. The awesome-cinnamon package basically just creates the .desktop and .session files to load cinnamon with awesome wm as the window manager.
I see reports of people with Unity broken after upgrading to 13.10. In my case Unity works fine but cinnamon is broken. It opens the startup applications but no window manager, no menus and the keyboad shortcuts won't work.
