I'm attempting a minimal install for the first time, using the F17 install DVD on an Acer Extensa 5220 laptop, but have encountered a problem very early on - the OS doesn't appear to detect the laptop's ethernet port. I've checked that NetworkManager is running, but when I attempt to ping an address (local or 8.8.8.8) it returns the error "connect: Network is unreachable".
After some partition shuffling, I've got a problem on my 11.10 system. The wired ethernet interface fails to come up, although the wireless interface is working.
I'm using NetworkManager. I thought this may be a problem with NetworkManager, so I checked the config files, which look ok.
Hi all,
I have a fairly recent update from Fedora 16 to 17. I use the MOBO's buitin network interface for internet connection.
I added a PCI ethernet card to support my HP deskjet printer but NeworkManager does not see the new card.
I have a linux laptop with NetworkManager. It's supposed to manage my network connections. It has wired ethernet and wifi. I would like to to automatically turn on and connect the wifi interface when the ethernet is unplugged, and bring down wifi when the ethernet is plugged. Is it possible to set a policy like this using NetworkManager?
Hello
How can I enable the network with Networkmanager WIHTOUT logging in in OpenSuse 11.2?
If I define a connection for ethernet the System connection is greyed out :-(
I want to use Networkmanager because I have also wireless connections...
Thanks a lot

I have been following this method described here:

To assign a virtual IP to one NIC.
Ranmaru wrote:I think the problem is that NetworkManager generally prefers ethernet over WiFi and thus tries to route all traffic through eth0 as soon as you connect the cable.I guess you could fix it by using your routing table to prefer the wireless connection over ethernet, but then you would have the problem the other way around.
Hi,
I have problems with ethernet (eth0 Wired connection) since I installed Raring (for about 4 days). I'm considering raising a bug report related to the kernel, but I thought it might be good idea to consult it there :)
So, the problem is: System boot -> everything ok. After some random time, in scale of minutes to hours, connection becomes totally unresponsive at one moment.
Hello everyone. I have a VPN I use for various things. I connect to it using NetworkManager, so when I want to use it I currently have to use it for all my internet activities. I'm wondering if there's a way for me to have 2 ethernet devices, like eth0 and eth1, so that I can connect one to the VPN and the other can stay as is.
