So I downloaded a SoundBlaster driver and after opening the read me, it described how to install the driver, which is over my head.
I tested the sound driver as it currently is and only got sound out of the rear speakers, no other surround sound speaker works.

I'm quite new to ubuntu and i'm trying to install my soundcard driver as mentionned above. I looked it up at the manufacturer site and found myself the tarball for linux. As commented in the install notes, I unpacked it, and then opened the readme file. The readme file tells me the following:

I have a couple errors that I can not figure out when trying to compile a driver for a raid card. I have all the needed packages for C and kernel development (make, kernel-headers, etc).

I have installed Slackware 13.1(64bit) on my laptop. I did not however install qt4, I installed qt3 and the KDE3.5.10 Desktop environment from Slam64 12.2. I've been trying to compile the qt4.Slackbuild library form Slackbuild (12.2), as it is suppose to be able to coexist with qt3. It seem to error out while compiling.

After upgrading ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10, pulseaudio says that my Toshiba Multimedia Center soundcard is 4.0, but this is fake, because it's 5.1 surround sound card.
I'm tired by searching for good pulseaudio/alsa config, so I'm looking for external sound card fully working with Ubuntu.
My preferences:
* USB or ExpressCard interface
Hey guys I uncheck all the unrelated ati because i ended up having ati driver installed plus opensource so I went through synaptic and removed all the ati related. LOL now I cant boot. I missed up and I'm no expert. How can I install the opensource driver? I have a ATI Radeon HD 4250 built into my laptop and also I'm on ubuntu 10.10 with latest kernel. Thanks guys.
