[SOLVED] Clone the whole system to a new HDD

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi all, as I wrote in an other thread I switched to Ubuntu this week. I just wanted to try the system, but I decided I'll keep this OS as my primary OS. In the next weeks I'd like to replace my HDD in my notebook, so it seems I need to install Ubuntu once more time. Is there any solution to clone my current system and copy all my settings, application into the new system? Thanks! (Hardware)

I tried everything since days, so now i'm asking you.

I got an Ubuntu system on my old hdd, wich is connectet via usb to this system and a sdd is build in my notebook. At the moment i am running an Ubuntu system from an usb stick.

I have tried to clone my disk(change uiid, etc), to transport the data via deja dup and much more. The result was nothing or strange things.

Have a clean fresh install of 11.3 from the DVD. Have stability problems with a couple of things. One that is crashing for me every time I go near it is "system settings" any time I try to set anything in "system settings > desktop > screensaver"

I would like to try execute clone's performance, but without calling clone() in linux(error said library not implemented in that structure).

I try to check sys_clone but found it impossible since the parameters are some registers information;

Also tried to use pthread to mimic clone's performance but since: pthread_create(&tid, NULL,foo,para) and in the function foo if I use void* foo(void*

i am experiment with my friends notebook toshiba NB100. he wants to put ubuntu on it. here is what am i facing with..

1.When the install finishes the new look of notebook remix crashes the hole system. no point moves no nothing

I have a 300GB ROOTVG volume groups with one filesystem /backup having 200GB allocated space

Now, I cannot alt disk clone or mirrorvg this hdisk with another smaller disk. The disk size has to be 300GB; I tried alt disk clone and mirrorvg , it doesn't work.

I created a USB live with Ubuntu and works just great. However, I would want to know how to master this portable solution.

My first concern is data lose (maybe the stick gets lost, maybe damaged) so would love to be able to sync all my data from the usb ubuntu live on ubuntu one.

new ubuntu user. after boot (boot is quite fast), opening applications such as firefox, libra, system settings, takes close to 10 seconds to open. after the application is loaded in RAM, the application opens fine.

the system feels snappy, quick. when i have two FIREFOX open, unity is snappy in showing me the two windows side by side.
