[SOLVED] Adding Unallocated space to Linux partitions

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – I installed F16 on a dual boot with W7. When I installed it, I shrunk my W7 partition down 100gb and installed F16 on that free space, giving 50gb to root, 40gb to home, and 10gb to the swap partition. Now, I just want to get rid of Windows. I've explored this before and didn't find an answer, but can I format the W7 partition (both it and the system reserved one) and add that space to the Fedora partitions? Here's my drive in GParted. I have GParted on a live USB. (HowTos)

Hi, After finishing a full reinstall where I changed the partioning on my hard drive, I find Gparted not recognising my swap space.

The partition is shown as an unknown file system and is, according to Gparted, not mounted after start-up, however when I want to format it to a linux-swap, Gparted wil fail and return that the partition is busy.

I have a Laptop with 1TB hard disk space. I can allocate 100GB for Ubuntu. Currently there is only Windows 7 installed.

I have 50GB of unallocated space that I want to use on my hard drive. I want to turn it into an extended partition so that I can have two logicals contained within it (probably one 10GB and the other 40GB) but when I go to GParted and right click on the space and select "new" the Extended partition option is greyed out and I can not make anything but a primary partition.

I had Windows 8 installed with 2 Ubuntu parititions in dual boot, everything running well. I hated Win 8 so I installed Win 7 over it by deleting my 80gb Windows partition and installing it in there.

But now I can't boot Ubuntu up, since obviously Windows has overwritten Grub.

This is how my hard drive (where I have Xubuntu 12.10) is formatted currently, based on a recent GParted screenshot:

I want to expand sda6 (4) to take up the free 11.72 GiB unallocated space. But I can't do it. This is what I did and gathered so far:

I can't add another primary partition as I have 4 already.

Hello,

Moving from FC17 to FC18 I decided to free some space (taken from swap and the root partition). Both partitions were created in an extended partition, ending up with 2GB of free space in the begining of the Extd. partition and additional 1.6GB in the end. There are other partitions (active and used by linux) in between, home, root, etc.

The question(s) is: 1.

Few weeks back I installed linux as a virtual machine on my windows 7 system but I didn't gave much thought to(or miscalculated) the size of various partitions and even worse I'm not using 'lvm'. Today I tried to installed Qt 5.0 SDK which required around 500MB of space in /tmp which I didn't had but other partitions had quite a bit of space.

I am completely new to linux, and thus far my experience with linux has been booting ubuntu 12.04 from a flash drive to play around with. I would eventually like to dual boot Ubuntu 12.04 alongside windows 7.

I have a Sony Vaio E series SVE15115FXS model laptop. The computer comes with 3 partitions loaded: 1. Recovery Partition 2. System Reserved Partition 3.
