Solaris 10 Login Loop Problem

http://www.unix.com – I recently installed Solaris 10 as a VM. I was using the JDS and shut down the vm when I left the office. When I rebooted today I login in at the desktop login screen and press ok but I am reverted to the console screen for a spilt second and then back to the login screen. I log in as root and my password is correct because I am not met with an incorrect login error. I even made a guest user account with a separate home directory and tried login in in but get the same loop even with correct password. Any assistance is greatly appreciated as this problem is driving me insane! (HowTos)

Hi

This question is usually responded to with "Liveuser does not need a password".

Well believe it or not in some configuration it is not possible to go passed the login screen of Fedora 11 or 12 KDE.

If you just hit enter which should work, it goes black with a blue flasy thing and then back to the login screen.

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 which was working fine till today.

If I try to login using one of my user accounts it directs me back to the login screen, which is followed by a black screen.

I am sure the password I enter is correct because if the password is wrong it prompts "Invalid Password".

On the other hand I am able to login using a root or guest account.

Up until recently my mother has been using the Guest Session when she logs on; now, the Guest Session will not login.

I have the same issue as others (see Login returns to login screen [closed]).

When I arrived at the login screen, I enter my password, the screen goes black for one second, displaying some text, and then it returns me to a fresh login screen.

I can go to a console alt+f1 and login into my account on the command line.

I recently updated my 10.04 release and then had a problem with the graphics card so I updated a little more and now have 12.04 which I'm fine with except that when I get to the login screen I can login as a guest and a secondary accout I have, but not as the main, administrator account.

I've ran a yum update on my CentOS 5.8 box and now I am unable to log into the console as root. Basically what happens is I receive the login prompt, enter the correct username and password, and am immediately spit back to the login prompt.

I feel my problem started after in did the updates and rebooted today.

I can't get out of the KDE login screen except for Console which works.

In Console, I effectively changed root and user passwords and rebooted to no avail.

I just did a clean install of 11.3 over my dual boot xp/11.2 system and kept my home directory. When I booted the system a console box came up. I then disabled auto login and rebooted. The login screen showed two users, 1- Tom and 2- Root. When I login as Tom the console comes up and when I boot into Root the GUI KDE system comes up.
