I want to update the core packages of R on ubuntu 12.04. But every time R says that it has no permissions to write to the library. Other packages with do not come with the r-core installation through the terminal. sudo apt-get install r-base are installed in my personal library.

This is the first time I am trying work with an external library(Ogre3D) on a Mac. I do not want to dump all of the .lylib files in into the /usr/lib directory since I might want to delete these files once I do not need them and it's hard to differentiate them form other library files.

I have some questions regarding OpenSuse and Suse Linux Enterprise Server available from Novell.
(1) What is the difference between OpenSuse and Suse Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) ? I see there is a link to download SLES in the Novell site. Will we have to buy SLES after 60 days for us to continue to use that OS ?
I'm trying to install gcc-4.4 on RHEL6: sudo rpm -ivh /mnt/dvd/Packages/gcc-4.4.3-1.el6.x86_64.rpm. But the problem is that is depends on glibc and glibc-common libraries.

I've been running a Suse 11.2 and ubuntu 9.04 on an internal HDD in separate partitions for about 6 months on an Acer aspire with 756 meg ram. I installed Suse first then Ubuntu as I couldn't work out how to alter the partitions and keep Ubuntu when installing Suse first.

Hi to everyone, im new with suse and i have a big question. I have and external usb-hard drive (500gb) which i mainly use to store music, videos and other files, my question is: can I use the usb-hdd to store music, files, etc. and install suse on a different partition? also, will i be able to acces my music and files in both suse and windows?
