I have setup Raid 1 & Raid 10 in Virtual Box for learning purpose.
The following Partitions for 4 Hard Drives:
I make a 100mb partition (/boot) on four drives and make that a raid 1 partition.
Then with the remaining space on each drive, I've setup software raid 10 and configure it to LVM. In the LVM I setup a 4gb swap partition and 20GB for root partition (/) as ext4.
Hi everyone
Just a quick one really.
Planning a new server install (to eventually run Zimbra) and I'll be going with CentOS since our file server and intranet servers both run it as well.
Hello,
When in YaST/System/Partitioner I try to create RAID for my second HDD which is named "sdb".
My original "sda" hdd is partitioned as follows:
dev/sda, disk type
dev/sda1, linux swap, swap, swap
dev/sda2, linux native, ext3, /
dev/sda3, linux native, ext3, /home
I know Linux has great capabilities over the years of using it but I can't seem to find an exact name or setup for this scenario. I want to do Matrix RAID (that is not the correct general name but it was as close as I got) on two HDD. I want to put the OS in RAID 1 for redundancy and then have another partition or folder as RAID 0 for TV recordings both on two HDD.
I have three drives (sda, sdb and sdc) which are partitioned into two partitions each set to "raid linux autodetect". The first partition is used for a RAID 0, the second partition for a RAID 1 on LVM.
For some reason sdc1 drops out of the RAID 0 and can only be re-added after a reboot. sdc2 stays in its RAID 1 though.
I'm trying to migrate the drive containing /home to a raid 1, and I've found so many incomplete and wildly divergent instructions I'm not sure where to start, other than spending the next 6 months studying raid and playing around in VBox.
Right now, I have a 3 harddrives.
sda (160GB) with / at sda1, plus a swap partition.
sdb (1TB) for /home at sdb1 (only partition on drive)
sdc (1TB) not in u
I like to setup grub2 on a GPT softare raid 3 TB HDD.
Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name
1 2048 1050623 512.0 MiB FD00 Linux RAID
2 1050624 5860533134 2.7 TiB FD00 Linux RAID
The first partition is boot, the second is LVM. After bootstrapping I installed grub2 which died with "missing BIOS boot".
Hi all, sorry if this is in the wrong forum (wasn't sure if it should be in Software or not), anyways...
I have recently reinstalled Fedora with a new partition structure. I have 4x 1.5 TB HDDs and the majority of the space forms RAID 5 array. However, because of my previous install /boot, /home and / were also on these drives and the new install these are on a NEW hard drive.
In F17 and earlier I have been able to boot from install disk and then ultimately access a raid 1 and then do a custom install. I select a root partition and home partition, etc., and the size of each, always reserving some free space in the volume group that is on top of my raid 1.
In F18 install I can't even see any raid.
