BBFTP is an inconsistent, unsupported, high maintenance file transfer tool.

Hi All,
OK...All of a sudden my comp has stopped allowing me to transfer largish files to any usb pendrives. The odd thing is that all the pendrives are fine and work in wdz7 but when I try to transfer say a 250mb file its gets half way and then unmounts the usb drive. If I remount the drive, format it and then try again the file operation instantly shows that the same file is half done.

Trying to backup data from hard drive before reloading windows following some issue with its load.
Having trouble with the file transfer to a USB3/2 external hard drive NTFS. Getting transfer speed of about 116.7kB/sec. In other words its taking about 5 hours to tranfer 1.4GB. I've got about 80GB to go. So the transfer is going to take 11days.
I recently purchased an iRiver P7 media player which I am using with Rhythmbox under Ubuntu 9.04. The transfer speed when uploading files to the player is phenomenally slow - the first 50 or so MB reported virtually instantly then the speed immediately drops to about 12-15KB/sec yes KB/sec so a 3-400MB video file takes hours to transfer to the player.
I am tuning the server and it seems to me that the hard drive speed (particularly writes) is quite slow. The results I get are below. This is a SCSI 10k RPM from HP (came with the server).
I am trying to troubleshoot my home lan because of slow file transfer speed. I have 4 machines that all run ubuntu 12.04 and all experience similar transfer speeds on my network. I transfer a file to a pc sitting 2 feet away at about 3 MB/sec (Samba, nfs). 1GB network card, router supports 1 GB speeds, switch supports 200mb, full duplex on all machines.
