Looks like pidgin-skype is broken among several distors, cause it works in none of them and I still wonder why does not anybody even try to report this, or am I wrong? After trying to add a skype account I get a window with a login field to put my skype nickname into and no password field. The very same issue was troubling arch, ubuntu and other distors I used.
I'm trying to connect to Skype throught Empathy 3.4 in Ubuntu 12.04 i386 (last update installed)
I installed the pidgin-skype plugin, but there is no bigbrownchunx-skype-dbus protocol in list.
It works fine with Pidgin.

I found an interesting project (skypathy)
what this project does is runs skype via empathy (sky-pathy)
with the help from a pidgin plugin that also works with empathy
pidgin-skype i installed everything like so
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:skype-wrapper/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install skype skype-wrapper empathy pidgin-skype
sudo apt-get remove sni-qt
then run the skype first.
pidgin privacy please is a pidgin plugin to stop spammers from annoying you. You can block messages from certain users, block messages from people who are not on your contact list and suppress repeated authorization requests.
abveritas wrote:Pidgin has some other plugins bundled-in already (OTR is one), either with the next pidgin update, or if I can find time, it'll be sooner, I'll add this plugin. If it works with the bundle ofc .Will be awesome , I also would like to test this
I found this, http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-openste
wToInstall , but cant seem to get it to work. I have tried putting it in both the .purple/plugins directory and the pidgin directory with no luck. Has anybody been able to install this plugin?
every time i open Pidgin, it resets my nickname to my name as shown in Windows Live Mail, i tried changing the nick from the plugin, but as soon as i restart Pidgin, it will set my name again, this happens in the standard MSN and the MSN-Pecan plugin
Pidgin is a nice chatting client that is pre-installed in a lot of Linux distributions. Pidgin supports many chat platforms like yahoo, facebook, irc, AIM ... but unfortunately, the popular social network Twitter is not on this list.
However, with the help of a plugin called pidgin-microblog, you can update and check twitter and some other social networks like Identi.ca, Status.net ..
