I performed two F18 installations on the same hardware (I had to resintall for some reasons) in a week's span. Neither installation had any problems with anything except one program - skype.
In the first installation, skype worked very well. No problems whatsoever. However, in my installation today, I just am not able to get skype to work.
I have something weird here.
I have something weird here.
I am using Xubuntu 12.10. I have installed the latest Skype. But the weird thing is that Skype takes exclusive control of the audio in the system.
1. When I am using Skype, I cannot play any other audio in system.
2. When I am using any audio in the system, Skype audio doesn't work.
3. When someone is calling me in skype, Skype crashes when I receive it.
I am running Skype installed via yum: skype-2.0.0.72-fc5.i586 on F11 x86_64
My sound is working perfectly under VLC etc. but I cannot get anything out of Skype. Test calls produce deafening silence.
I am really unclear on how the sound stuff works.
Help please!
Thanks,
Michael
After a lot of time (and negative votes) I decided to install pulseaudio, since sound in my 9.10 system was not working properly. And I must admit that solved almost all of my sound problems. All is left is a small one. My mic works perfectly. I tested it under audacity. But when it comes to skype I can't get it working.
I'm having skype voice input issue. I had win7 for about half a year on this laptop and it is working flawless. Now I've installed Ubuntu (latest stable version), and than skype via software center. My cam is recognized, but voice isn't. When i go to skype settings it shows me that both of my speakers and mic and controlled by some PulseAudio stuff. On test call I can't hear my voice back.
Some time after a recent upgrade skype has stopped working. If I try to launch it from a terminal, it outputs the following error:
~$ skype
Fatal: QWidget: Must construct a QApplication before a QPaintDevice
Aborted (core dumped)
I have tried removing the .Skype folder and reinstalling, it solves the problem for a while. Nevertheless after I reboot the PC, the problem comes back.
Like a noob, i tried installing skype numerous ways, non of them worked. Today i notice there is skype on Ubuntu software centre, when i try install i get this error message:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
skype: Depends: skype-bin but it is not going to be installed
How can i install skype ? what do i need to do?
Im a noob. sorry. D:
