Silent capture sound from mic with Alsa

http://forums.opensuse.org – Hi, After one of the latest kernel update to opensuse 11.1 64 bit, I've started to have capture sound problem with builtin microphone of my laptop. It continues with latest opensuse 11.2 64 bit. I've volume up everything from mixer, yast's sound option, configure desktop's multimedia options, but nothing works. When I switch to windows, it's really easy to realize how the mic's capture sound volume is raising up. I tried to use pulse audio, but had a sync problem on skype. Running 11.3 on my HP DV4-1220US the sound worked fine until I installed the Broadcom-wl wireless drivers then the sound stopped. I was able to get the sound working again by reconfiguring the sound drivers in YaST but it is unreliable and often stops working and I have no volume control in the system tray. Here is the output from the varous scripts and commands

When plugging in my headphones jack the sound is turned to mute and no sound come out , but sound works fine with no headphones also in my alsamixer there is not automute option.

I have a problem recording sound with my Microphone in my current Opensuse 11.2(KDE) installation.

I tried installing Ubuntu on another partition, and it works there, so the hardware is not the problem.

I fiddled around with almost everything in kmix and alsamix, including the Mic Select, but nothing gets in arecord or krecord.

I have stated that I use Pulse because ALSA fails to utilize more then one sound app. With ALSA if I watch a youtube vid in firerfox and soon open my music player the music player wont work unless I close off firefox. so I close off firefox but sometimes flash hangs the sound device hostage and I have to log out or kill something to make sure ALSA is freed up.

Right now I either can have wireless or sound. When I get sound I lose my wireless which may be due to some kernel issue. I use the madwifi, madwifi-kmp-default, madwifi-kmp-pae, & compat-wireless-kmp-pae for my athero ar 9285. This gets my wireless going.

When I talk to anybody on Skype, the sound is really slow, it sounds like I am a robot. Its running at maybe 1/2 normal speed.

I am using Xine backend and internal microphone.

sound problems under 11.2 64bit 3 years 15 weeks ago

This is a very new desktop system using an ASUS mainboard with built on sound.

I've never had sound working properly and have re-installed many times.

One sound will play (KDE4 desktop sound, Amarok audio, even games under WINE) but when a second sound plays, it stops the first one (and plays perfectly), but then the first app is no longer able to play sound.

Here is another topic on no sound from the sound card. It was working fine in 11.2 but not now. This was a clean install of 11.3 not an upgrade, whilst leaving my home directory alone. This is no sound from system, Amarok, web browser.>:(
