I have asked this elsewhere and gotten absolutely nowhere.
Yesterday while at the login screen for 11.10 I stupidly chose "Recovery Console" from the little gear menu. What happened after that is that a small terminal window opened in the top left of my screen. At this point the keyboard would not enter anything.
I hit CTRL-ALT-F1 and got to a login prompt.
Hi,
I have a problem with my computer occasionally restarting on shutdown.
Sometimes when i shutdown it reboots.
I am writing this from another working system
I have been using f17 for some time now and this is the first time
with this problem. f17 is current with updates
I can boot the system and login but after login the keyboard no
longer works.
I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and I am unable to shutdown via shutdown option. If I issue a shutdown the system goes back to the login prompt.
I can shutdown the system only via terminal using sudo shutdown -h now.
Let me know how to resolve this issue.
It happens like 50% of my Suse 11.2 startups, when I type in my password at login screen and hit enter, Gnome do not start, i can only see the green blank screen,or sometimes it start to show only my custom wallpaper and nothing more, when i try ctrl+alt+backspacex2 and login again everything seems to work fine, but what could be wrong ? is it a hardware issue ?
I've upgraded to latest kernel. Then followed wiki to replace with systemd. Also searched the forums and resolved a few issues that I had. Everything works great, Arch boots faster and uses less RAM on boot...However, I have questions:1) At start of syslinux boot there's a "Probing EDD (edd=off to disable)... ok" I have SSD on my laptop. Is this related?
Hello everyone,
When I shut down in the Xfce desktop, I require a root password to shutdown and restart the computer.
Here are two pictures to help with the situation. The first one is the logout prompt.
Recently restarted my computer after updates. I get pass grub and a login prompt with a black background came up to log in with a user name, password. After the login the prompt
"name@name-GA990FXA-UD3:~$" this came up. I'm not sure where to go from here. I realize that GA990FXA-UD3 is my motherboard.
I attempted older version which gave me error due no detection of devices.
I recently installed ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop, when I down loaded the updates a few
days later I find it no longer does a complete shutdown, The screen comes up with the prompt for password, the settings icon shows a shutdown symbol , but it is obviously
not. I can force shutdown by holding the power button.
