Installed Ubuntu 13.10 on my Dell D830, Installed with no Problems. 1st 3 three things i Installed Cinnamon 2.0 DE, zonColor themes & icons also simple Red Ubuntu background.
Noticed on the Shutdown menu there is no Option to Restart, Just Shutdown & suspend. I can log out & Restart from the Top Menu. i know i can also do sudo reboot.
I recently installed ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop, when I down loaded the updates a few
days later I find it no longer does a complete shutdown, The screen comes up with the prompt for password, the settings icon shows a shutdown symbol , but it is obviously
not. I can force shutdown by holding the power button.
I have ubuntu 11.10 64bit, everything worked fine but after i uninstalled the airtime dj app i can't restart or shutdown my pc !! The only way to reach at the screen showing that system is going to shutdown is via terminal but it stucks and never shuts down !
I can't even restart it !
I can suspend my pc fine but can't shutdown or restart it.
My Compaq Presario 2100 will not shutdown, restart, suspend, or hibernate correctly. When I attempt a shutdown or restart, it hangs with a message to the effect of Shutting Down Now, but it never powers off.
I would like to be able to log these messages and present them on this web site for help, but I know of no way to log shutdown messages.
I just got Wake on Lan working but I have a problem:
If I wake on lan and try to shutdown or suspend it just starts up again. This only happens once after using WOL and then it successfully shuts down and also suspends. What could be causing this? How should I troubleshoot?
Just installed 64 bit 12.04 on a Sony Vaio AMD Turion(tm) II P560 Dual Core Processor x 2 laptop yesterday. Installed great, took only 22 minutes as a dual boot setup with Win7. The 608 updates that followed took longer.
It's been running very well. Installed a few fav programs etc. A few times when shutting it down Ubuntu just hangs up and won't shutdown.
When I click the Shutdown button in MATE, many times it will log out and suspend rather than shutting down. This does not happen 100% of the time, but it seems to happen very frequently when the computer has been running for a long period of time.
I have used dconf-editor to edit the power management settings and make sure that nothing is set to suspend.
