Shortcut to compile kernel file ?

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Dear All, I hope you all are fine ad doing well, I become successful to download kernel, compile it and run it. BUT When i modify tcp.c file or any other file in this /usr/src/linux/net/ipv4 location, (just modifying c files) i have to compile the complete kernel every time, which is very time consuming procedure. So Please help, How to compile that net/ipv4 package or etc... I will be very very thankful to you all... please please guide me.. Mehdi (HowTos)

after days of searching I found this link and seems it has what I've been looking for ! I couldn't install it , I'm so new linux user can u give me a hand in this :( please

readme file says :

To compile the driver you need to have source codes of your OS kernel. Default Makefile is searching for kernel source codes in "/usr/src/linux" folder to compile the driver.

I am not a newbie to Linux, i have been using Linux as my desktop for 4 years, but i am just an end user to Linux, no advanced knowledge to it.

I knew that, i can download generic linux kernel and compile it by myself, but how about Unix? how can i get an Unix kernel and compile it ? or no this thing?

I have a mac running snow leopard and I know that I cannot compile the linux kernel. I have used a linux VM (virtualbox) to compile the kernel but I was wondering if I could compile it on eclipse (galileo).

So, I'm attempting to compile and use the 3.6.2 kernel on my Debian 6 VM (running under Windows 7 in VMware Workstation 9).

I found a file on the LG Open Source Website the other day. Just enter LS840 for the model number. This is the file I found:

LS840(Viper)_Android_ICS_4.0.4_r1_US_Sprint_Openso urce_LS840ZVG.zip

In the .zip are 2 files.

I've attempted to install drivers for an FPGA device, but require that I remove the usbserial module. This happens to be impossible because usbserial is a built-in module. It was suggested that I compile a new kernel to make usbserial dynamically loadable and unloadable.

So I have a KVM machine, where I run an Ubuntu 12.04 (server edition). I want to compile a minimalistic kernel for the KVM guest, but I only found the howto for hosts, and guests with paravirtualization.
