OS: Windows 7. I want install Linux Ubuntu on portable external Hard Drive USB 2.0.
I read a variety of methods, but I'm confused by contradictory advices and methods. Actually, installing Ubuntu on anything other than clean PC looks much more complicated than installing Windows.
I need to have Ubuntu package + Python 2.7 + C compiler installed.
I am currently looking for a quality portable external hard drive to go with my Thinkpad. It will mainly be used for storing my school files, music and videos. Some have already suggested Western Digital and Philips. Others gave me suggestion to choose between the portable one and that which has external power support.
I was curious if it would be possible to create a portable Development Environment with just a VM image on a portable device, like a thumb/flash drive, external hdd, or my phone. I find myself working on different computers a lot and it would be nice to have my dev environment with me at all times. I want to be able to make a linux based guest work on Linux and Windows hosts.
So we're clear, the solution in this thread did not work for me.
Here's my situation: I had a Dell Inspiron 5150 running 10.10 connected to a 500GB WD external USB drive. I never had to muck with smb.conf or fstab, and I could share the drive over my network to other computers running OS X with out any problems. Recently, I acquired another computer which now runs 10.10.
I have just purchased a new USB hub and am having issues getting it to work with my external hard drive. When I first plugged in the external hard drive, I received an error message stating it needed to be formatted, then the external disappeared.
