I am trying Ubuntu on a trial basis to see if I think I could use it in place of Windows. One of the things I can do in Windows is connect my XP laptop thru a wireless access point which is connected by ethernet cable to my desktop, which is set to share its internet connection. The desktop connects to the internet by dialup.
I am aware that I can share my wired internet connection to other devices wirelessly, but what I need now is a little more complex. I am limited to one device over the wifi but would like my macbook to have internet as well. It's in another room so ethernet is not really an option. I really would like to share the wireless from my ubuntu (it's on more) to other wireless devices.
I have a dell latitude 2100 running ubuntu 11.1. Wireless internet works fine on it but wired connections do not. When I plug a ethernet cord in, it keeps on saying wired connection connected followed by disconnected. When I check the ethernet connection in the network part of system settings, it also keeps rapidly changing to on/off.
I have internet access through 3G/4G USB dongle direct into my Ubuntu 10.04 box. Works great! Now I would like to share this connection out through my Netgear WGR614 wireless (and wired) router. Any clues?
I just setup internet connection sharing with the network manager on my laptop with ubuntu 12.10 and a wireless internet connection on eth1, so that it is sharing the connection through eth0, an ethernet port.
It works, but the ip address given to the client (another ubuntu 12.10 machine) is 10.42.0.67.
How can I change this?
I have setup internet connection sharing manually before, with ip masque
Hi all, i am trying to use my laptop (running Ubuntu) to take the connected wireless network to allow a separate computer (win7) to be wired to the Ethernet port and be connected to the Internet.
To reiterate,
I want to bridge my Ethernet and wireless connections so that a computer connected can use the Internet.
Modem---(wireless)---> Ubuntu Laptop---(Ethernet port)--- Win7 Desktop
Bonus
I am using Internet Connection Sharing on my Ubuntu 10.04 system to share internet with my Playstation 3. Setting this up was easy enough (right click on Auto eth0 - ipv4 tab - method: shared to other computers).
The problem is that there aren't really any options and to my knowledge UPNP is not supported in Ubuntu since it's a security risk.
I have a VoIP box with an ethernet port that needs to have an internet connection, and a laptop with Wi-Fi that can already go online. I need to somehow "bridge" (don't know if I used this term correctly) these two interfaces together so my VoIP box works.
In short, I'm trying to share the Internet connection from a laptop to a converted server
Details: AT&T Uverse wireless connection to a decrepit laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 which is connected via ethernet to an old desktop running Ubuntu Server 10.04
The server is intended to be a http server, ssh server, file server, and irc server.
