I have created a local windows account on a Windows Server 2008r2 server and given that local account, amongst others, access to 2 shared folders.
I have also connected various mobile devices (PPC2003, CE5, WM6.5) to the network using the same account details but when navigating to the share from the devices I can resolve to the server but can not see any of the shared folders.
Here's a quick summary of the environment I support: we have a domain (domain A) that has about 20 client computers. The domain server for this domain and all the clients sit within the network infrastructure of a larger domain (domain B). All the computers get their network settings via DHCP from domain B's servers.
I'm in the process of learning Windows Server 2012, so I just did a fresh reinstall of it. Before I actually setup a local domain, I'm wondering how to access this from outside of my network.
This is a bit of a weird one. I'm running ubuntu on a Windows domain. If I type "ping server" I can ping correctly and I can connect without any problems. It looks up my search domain (domain.local) and everything is hunky dory.
Problem is when I try to ping server.domain.local.
With Windows XP, I used to access machines in the network (under a domain) via administrative share (hidden share, a.k.a. "C$"), authenticating myself as the local admin of each respective machine.
Recently, the machines were upgraded to Windows 7.
I'm trying to teach myself Active Directory using the self-paced training kit 70-640 unfortunately my networking and System Administration skills are quite poor and I'm having trouble with Chapter 1 / Lesson 2 / Exercise 2 !
I created 1 virtual machine in Virtual Box "SERVER01", this is the Windows Server 2008R2 domain controller for the contoso.com domain
I created a 2nd virtual machine,"SERVER
I'm not sure if I am going to describe this properly. I have a OSX Lion server(don't ask me why this was requested) linked to a domain (for examples sake server.domain.net).
Outside access is working as intended. However for local clients access to the domain causes errors as the domain points to the same network.
I have a Debian Linux server running on my local network. I also have port forwarding set up on my router so that computers outside my network can use my domain name and get to my website/FTP/SSH Server. That works perfectly.
When I enter the domain name (or even the public ip address) on the local network however, it times out.
I have a few conditions to meet with a new samba setup.I want to migrate a windows based share to a linux samba share. However this time the share is in the regular corporate LAN and I do not have the rights to add this samba server to the corporate windows domain.
